Claudine Thevent was a women called by God to form the Congregation of Jesus and Mary.Her work was born in the heart crushed by the pain of personal tragedy.During the French Revolution in 1789 her two brothers were shot to death in her presence.For Nineteen year old Claudine,this became a decisive turning point in her life.

God works in wondrous ways to realize His plans.Claudine concluded that in all the violence she witnessed,there was more ignorance than malice.Far from closing in on herself,she opend her heart to the miseries of the poor and orphaned children where she lived.Years later,other women joined her good work and finally formed themselves into a Religious famil,calling themselvesthe Sister of Jesus and Mary.
As time went by Claudine died,her work of leading this little group was taken up by another sister and soon they were invited to come to India,Agra to start a school for the orphend children of the armed force.
So in 1842 they sailed to India and undertook the education of girls.They followed Claudine’s vision and ideal as Educators of the young and among them the poor.
This Religious family born in the church, serve internationally and follow Claudine’s ideal,To make God known and loved, by means of Christian Education in all social milleux.
What Kind of women did the Foundress wish to form in her work with the young?
a)Women with FAITH in God,Faith in themselves and Faith in others.
b)Women capable of good WIVES and MOTHERS and of creating happy HOMRES.Women capable of being an asset in the socity and Nation.
c) Women,whose very PRESENCE anwhere would exude GOODNESS and touch other lives.

What did she desire of her Religious Sister and lay Teacher?
a)To be a living WITNESS in their own lives…of the values they teach.
b)To be completely GIVEN to the young and to be REAL MOTHERS to them.
c)To have FORESIGHT and THOROUGHNESS in preparing and carrying out their duties.
d)To be very impartial.
e)To have a great simplicity in doing all things to please GOD.
f)To be courteous ,but without any affectation in their manner tone of voice,deportment and behavior.
g)To be clean and orderly in their work and in their personal appearance.
What was Claudine’s method of educating the young?
It was a system:
a)Of  prevention that foresees and fore stalls faults,giving guidance at the opportune time…there is a greater delicacy of love implied in removing obstacles than merely healing wounds.
b)Of  attention to the individual stressing the dignity of each person.
c)Of  participation and collaboration because cannot develop except in a united school community.
d)Of  giving a practical formation enabling the young while living in the present to prepare for the future.
e)Of  social formation …to take their place in socity with confidence.
f)Of  pedagogy based on simplicity,family spirit and love.
g)A stimulating pedagogy giving each one the taste for going beond self for making a reality of the dream which god has for each one of his children.

Claudine was then 19 years of age and this event was a decisive turning point in her life.God works in such wondrous was to realize his designs.She concluded that in all the violence she witnessed there was more ignorance than malice.The thought of those who live and die without knowing God,haunted her and caused her anguis.Far from closing in upon herself in sufferingshe open her to the miseries surrounding her.Led by the spirit Claudine first opened her door to welcome two little orphans,a door which would never close.Many young girls would later cross the threshold of the institutions founded by Claudine’s Companions throughout the world.
Her response to the call of God took from in the total commitment of herself to the following of  Christ.A Religious family was born in the Church……
Claudine’s ideal was to make God known and loved by means of CHRISTIAN EDUCATION in all social miliex.This ideal remains as the aim of the Congregation with the preference inherited from the Foundress for the YOUNG and among them the POOR.
